Living with a cat in an apartment certainly has dozens of challenges, especially if one is inexperienced, but living with a pet is rewarding in itself. Cats are ideal for apartment living because they are small, sleep about 15 hours a day and are usually quite independent.
But they have specific characteristics, curiosity, and each one has its own character, displaying many or few of the characteristics mentioned in the sketches within the article.
Cats are climbers by nature, like to sharpen their claws and have energy to let off steam. They don’t know, don’t understand and don’t want to understand human rules and people have to adapt to living with a cat. Providing space for them to climb and things to play or scratch is something that will make life easier and happier for a human and a cat.

Cats can get bored easily if they don’t have enough toys or objects to play with to keep them mentally stimulated and active, so they waste energy. Often, bored cats can become destructive or behave by excessively scratching, using the toilet outside the litter box, or developing anxiety. Providing entertainment for your feline friend keeps their environment exciting and promotes good health and well-being.
Interactive toys for cats
Interactive cat toys provide enrichment to a cat’s environment. They can stimulate their social needs and prevent boredom (and damage). Indoor cats are also prone to being overweight from a lack of play elements or enrichment as they are called, so a spinning ball toy or a jumping fish toy can increase the amount of activity they do without the owner.
With the owner there are many games to choose from. Starting with the life-saving laser pointer that was most likely discovered by a cat lover. One that has definitely been discovered by cat lovers is the stick with a toy attached to the end of it. It’s a lifesaver.
Cats sleep much of the day and love to sunbathe during the warmer months. Cat window seats attach to your window and give your cat the ability to nap in the sun or watch the birds during the day. With a designated and comfortable spot for the cat to perch, it will happily purr all day. From fluffy beds to cat caves, the options are endless.
Keeping the cat busy and active
Cats are natural hunters and slow feeders or puzzle feeders can give them that sense of instinct and allow your cat to ‘hunt’ for its food and conquer it with its sword. These types of feeders are designed to challenge and hold the cat’s interest.
Like interactive toys, cat tunnels are great for adding more activity to your cat’s daily routine. Tunnels allow your cat to tap into its wild side by hiding, playing and rushing. Throw some toys in there and your cat will become a hunter in no time! As useful as cat trees and puzzle feeders. But all cats love boxes and boxes. Cheap and always catches. Or almost always.
Cat disasters
Because as mentioned cats are natural climbers this is something a cat owner should cultivate rather than prohibit. Cat trees with observation (and sleeping) posts are a great gift for cats that will do less damage as shown in the sketch above. However, damage is inevitable, so it is best to keep the decoration of each home minimal to avoid injury to animals and damage to sentimental souvenirs or heirlooms.
