An auctioneer accidentally discovered a rare coin from America’s independence era.
A unique item worth thousands of euros was recently found at the bottom of a can. The Wotton Auction Roomsan auction house based in Gloucestershire Englandstumbled upon an old coin while appraising various items brought in by a private citizen seller.
Auctioneer Joseph Trinder said the coin has a diameter of 38mm and is made of pewter, while it appears to have been cut in 1776according to SWNS.
“This coin is one of the best things that has happened to me in my career to date and is something every auctioneer hopes to find”Trinder also stated.
The coin had a limited production and were only minted 6,000 pieceswhile today there are barely any 100 worldwide. This fact makes its value enormous, SWNS reported.

Wanting to know about its rarity and true value, Mr Trinder. sent the coin to the United States for authentication by the Numismatic Guaranty Company based in Sarasota, Florida – and it was confirmed to be genuine.
“It was examined by a panel of experts, x-rayed and subjected to other scientific tests and we were delighted to receive a notification a few days ago telling us that it is genuine”Trinder told SWNS.
And he added: “To think that this is a coin that dates back to the year of independence [της Αμερικής] and to be in the UK, it’s crazy.”
Trinder said the auction house has not confirmed any record of another example of the coin found in United Kingdom.
