She sold her neighbor’s furniture on Facebook’s Marketplace and caused an internet controversy

Facebook’s Marketplace can be a brilliant place to sell household items – if you’re into online ‘I just came to have a look’.

“I was just shocked”

While many people take to social media to auction off their belongings, it seems that Andrea’s neighbor wasn’t interested in making a quick buck online and simply left his furniture outside for someone to pick up for free.

“I stopped selling stuff on the (Facebook) marketplace because it’s such a hassle. 800 messages like “is this available?” and then 800 people who ghost (disappear and don’t respond)”

But seasoned TikToker Andrea, from Orange County, California, took the furniture and sold it online.

Andrea, who goes by the name @avocandreatoast, posted the video last year – and it has since racked up over a million views on the platform.

“Someone in my apartment doesn’t know what Facebook Marketplace is,” the TikToker explained.

Meanwhile, others pointed out that they really enjoy giving away their unwanted items for free to people who will use them

“I keep seeing crap lying around,” Andrea said as she filmed herself moving the free furniture back into her home. “I was just shocked … they weren’t even trying to sell.”

“I have a life too”

After getting the furniture back home, Andrea decided to put it on Facebook Marketplace, then selling the desk she found for $20. “I got a million applications for it, someone came and got it within two hours,” he added. “To anyone who leaves their furniture outside, you may continue to do so.”

TikTok certainly sparked a debate in the comments section, as many questioned whether Facebook’s Marketplace was worth all the hassle.

“I stopped selling stuff on the (Facebook) marketplace because it’s such a hassle. 800 messages like “is this available?” and then 800 people who ghost (disappear and don’t respond). I have a life too,” wrote one person.

A second added: “I’ve had no luck with the Facebook marketplace. Every person so far who has dealt with an item does not appear or respond.’

While a third remarked: “It’s because nobody really shows up half the time and I get annoyed.”

Meanwhile, others have pointed out that they really enjoy giving away their unwanted items for free to people who will use them.
