Olympics: Back to family restaurant for Chinese woman who tried to ‘bite’ her medal

And medal and shop! Chinese gymnast Zhou Yaqin, who recently won a medal at the Paris Olympics, has won the hearts of many, not only for her athletic achievements and gentleness, but also for her devotion to her family.

After her triumphant return from France, the gymnast who excelled on the balance beam also went viral when she tried, as usual, to “bite” her (silver) medal. But instead of enjoying her success and recharging her batteries, she chose to help her parents at their family restaurant in Hengyang City, Hunan Province.

Located on Furong Road in Nanyue District, the restaurant has long been a part of her life. Despite her success, the 18-year-old athlete returned to the store to help her family run the day-to-day operations. A viral video showing the young champion serving customers and helping out in the business’s kitchen has gained traction, highlighting the girl’s humility.

The video, which quickly went viral on Chinese social media platforms, shows Zhou greeting customers with a big smile and working alongside her parents as if she had long been just another staff member.

@dailymail Zhou Yaqin, the Chinese Olympic gymnast who went viral for the heartwarming moment she copied her fellow medalists’ pose, has returned to work at her parents’ restaurant. #olympics #parisolympics2024 #paris2024 #china #gymnast #gymnastics #cute #wholesome ♬ Olympic Opening Ceremony ★ Orchestra – The Dream of a Butterfly
