The main theme of the newest exhibition of the Museum of European and Mediterranean Cultures in Marseille is the nude.
In a bold and unconventional move, a seaside town of of France is turning heads with a new museum exhibit that explores nudity culture—and invites visitors to experience it for themselves naked. The Museum of European and Mediterranean Cultures (Mucem) at Marseille hosts an exhibit entitled “Naturist Paradises“, where visitors can explore the centuries-old tradition of nudism, completely naked, according to “The Guardian».
Around 80 brave visitors stripped down in a curtained room, embracing the ‘natural’ spirit of the exhibition. “Anyone who wants to visit fully clothed at those hours might be considered a bit odd“, ironically noted a representative of the museum, underlining the unique and playful atmosphere of the event.
The exhibition is a celebration of it nudity – a lifestyle that embraces nudity, especially in nature, and has deep roots in French culture. “In recent years a new craze for nudity has emerged“, explains the museum’s website.
The exhibition includes more than 600 photosvideos and everyday objects that capture the essence of nudism and its evolution over the centuries. It offers a comprehensive look at how this practice has been incorporated into French life, particularly in the famous nude beach towns such as Cagnes-sur-Mer.
Among those in attendance to embrace the unique experience was 28-year-old Kieren Parker-Hall from United Kingdom. Describing it as a “once in a lifetime opportunity”, he appreciated the fact that France’s culture has a more relaxed approach to nudity compared to his home country.
