A gold pocket watch given to Arthur Rostron, captain of the RMS Carpathia, the ship that rescued more than 700 survivors of the Titanic disaster, has sold for $2 million.

The auctioneers Henry Aldridge and Sonwho sold the watch to a collector on United States on Saturday (16/11) against 1.56 million British pounds they said it is the largest amount ever paid for Titanic memorabilia. Price includes taxes and fees paid by the buyer.
The watch was given to Rostron by his widow John Jacob Astorof the richest man who lost his life in the legendary shipwreck.
“Every man, woman and child had a story to tell, and those stories are told more than a century later through souvenirs”said the Son.
THE Rostron was described as a hero for his actions the night he sank Titanic and his crew were recognized for their bravery.
