For many people, “The Godfather” is one of the greatest movies of all time, but former mob boss Michael Franzese made a few “mistakes” in some scenes.
A former leader of hers mafia stated that one of the best “mafia” films of all time made a few missteps in depicting crime.
For many, “The Godfather” is very high on the list of favorite movies. In fact, on IMDb (Internet Movie Database), cinephiles have given it first place in the Top 250, along with “Shawshank Redemption” and “The Dark Knight”.
Even a former leader of the Colombo mafia, Michael Franzesehas expressed his admiration for Coppola’s masterpiece, having previously characterized the Hollywood classic as one of the top gangster movies and series.
And when it comes to portraying organized crime on the big screen, Mr Franzese is perhaps the right person to say whether a good job has been done or not…Thus, although the former leader of the notorious criminal organization of New York admitted that he is a big fan of the fictional story of the Corleone family, he said that some of it is definitely not based on reality.
Speaking on YouTube channel BuzzFeedVideo, Mr Franzese he had remembered the scene in which the new Don, Michael Corleone, talks to Moe Greene of Las Vegas and tells him that he wants to buy him out.
In this particular scene, which stars Al Pacino as Corleone and Alex Rocco as Greene, Rocco’s character is seen berating Don Corleone for this insult. Among the dozens of curses he utters, he also throws a racist insult, before disappearing.
Franzese did not like this scene at all. “Nobody wants to be called that when you’re Italian”he said. “There was no way anyone would dare say that to a guy like Michael Corleone.”
Finally, Franzese also took it out on Michael’s brother, Fredo (John Cazale), who in one scene yelled at his brother for the way he was talking to Greene.
“There’s no way Fredo would have said to Michael in real life, ‘Hey, do you realize who you’re talking to?’ when his brother is a mob boss,” noted.
